US citizens need a passport for entry in the Dominican Republic
I would strongly recommend that you always take your U.S. Pass port with you when moving in or out of the Dominican Republic. If not there can be problems, although law says you can enter with birth license or other forms that proove your citizenship in America, the Dominican people that let you get out without U.S passport and a new passport can take up to 10 business days.:
